This is a mashup of Ode to Joy and one of the first sermons I heard from Douglas Wilson (at the 2013 Desiring God Pastor's Conference). Though I had read him for a long time prior to this, I had never heard him speak. This was a lecture Wilson gave regarding the soteriology of CS Lewis.
[0:00] Many Calvinists are again becoming jovial, which shouldn't be reduced to a willingness to tell the occasional joke. Many Calvinists are again becoming jovial.
[0:13] The issue is much more deeper than the occasional joke. We are talking about rich worship, robust psalm singing laden with harmonies, tables laden with good food, laughter and Sabbath feasting, exuberant preaching, the exaltation of Jesus, and all with gladness and simplicity of heart.
[0:38] The winter is breaking. This is not just a thought. It promises to be a real spring. All the initiative has been on God's side.
[0:53] All has been free, unbounded grace. And all will continue to be free, unbounded grace. Remember the vivid picture of the church, quote, spread out through all time and space and rooted in eternity, terrible as an army with banners.
[1:11] Looking at the sheep and the goats, every man can be quite sure that every kind act he does will be accepted by Christ. Yet equally, we all do feel sure that all the good in us comes from grace.
